Marlene Berney

school in 4 years through an enrichment program at Northview. She was a
dedicated school teacher at the elementary and junior high levels up until
her retirement. Shortly after leaving teaching with many plans to continue
enriching her life and those of her family, friends and community, she died
suddenly following surgery. Marlene was strong and determined, bright and knowledgeable
and so kind, generous and compassionate. She was my best friend from grade 4
on and along with her loving family, I cherish her
memory and am grateful for her presence in my life. |

Keith did Business Administration at Ryerson, and after graduation was hired

everyone as someone worthy of his undivided attention and spoke to each of us

It is with deep sadness
that I must tell you that my husband, Cornelis
Vandenberg, passed away this past August (in 2006). He would have loved to
join you at the reunion for he enjoyed teaching math at Northview Heights
S.S. from 1971 until his retirement in 1995. As some of you may remember, Cor
was a school representative for OSSTF and he was strike captain during the
big teacher’s strike of the 1980’s. He liked teaching math to his
ESL classes in particular and taking them on outdoor field trips. Cor had not been well for the last
five years. He had also recently been diagnosed with cancer. Nevertheless,
his death due to a massive blood poisoning (sepsis) came unexpectedly. We would like to thank his Northview
colleagues and his students for their support and fellowship during Cor’s teaching years at Northview Heights S.S. His was a life well lived that had to
end too soon. |
